Massage Myths – Busted!
Let’s set the record straight...

When people think of massage, they often picture a fluffy robe, pan flute music, and a glass of cucumber water. And hey — I love a good pamper session as much as anyone — but massage is so much more than a luxury treat. As a massage therapist, I hear a lot of the same myths and assumptions that can stop people from experiencing the real benefits of regular bodywork.

So, let’s bust some of the most common massage myths out there 👇

1. “Massage is just pampering or luxury.”

Let’s be honest — this one comes up a lot. But massage isn’t just a ‘treat-yourself’ moment (although it can be lovely and relaxing). It’s actually a powerful tool to support your health.

✅ It reduces stress
✅ Improves circulation
✅ Helps manage pain
✅ Supports your nervous system
✅ Boosts your overall well-being

📣 Massage isn’t a luxury. It’s a form of self-care your body will thank you for.

2. “You only need a massage when you’re in pain.”

Waiting until you’re sore, tight, or stressed to book a massage is a bit like waiting for your car to break down before getting a service. Regular massage helps prevent the build-up of tension before it turns into pain.

Think of it as muscle and mind maintenance. You don’t need to be in agony to benefit — in fact, it’s better if you’re not.

📣 Don’t wait until you're hurting — prevent the build-up before it becomes a problem.

3. “Massage has to hurt to work.”

This one makes me cringe a little. The idea that massage needs to be super deep or painful to “do anything” just isn’t true. Yes, some people love deep tissue work — and that’s fine! But relaxation massage (the kind I offer) is designed to calm the nervous system, release tension, and help you unwind.

Pain isn’t the goal — comfort and healing are.

📣 No pain, more gain — massage should feel good, not like punishment.

4. “You’ll feel amazing straight after every massage.”

Sometimes you do float out of the room feeling lighter and looser — and that’s the goal! But not always. Especially in the beginning, your body might feel a bit sore or even emotional as things shift and reset. That’s totally normal.

It’s part of the healing process, and it means your body is starting to release what it’s been holding onto.

📣 Healing isn’t always instant. Be kind to your body as it resets.

5. “All massage therapists are the same.”

Nope! Just like PTs, hairdressers, or yoga teachers, massage therapists all bring different techniques, styles, and energy to the table. Some go deep, some work gently. Some are clinical, some are more holistic. The magic happens when you find a therapist whose approach feels right for you.

Massage is personal — and it should be.

📣 Massage is personal — and so is your journey to feeling better.

Final thoughts:
Whether you’re a busy parent, a desk worker, a gym-goer, or just someone who needs a moment to breathe — massage can support your wellness journey in real, meaningful ways. It’s not about indulgence. It’s about investing in your body and mind.

Let’s keep smashing the myths, one massage at a time 💆‍♀️✨
If you’ve been holding off for any of these reasons, maybe now’s the time to book in — your body will thank you for it.
